Relaxing

At Ormiston House you can put your feet up and read a book.  In winter we will have the fires going in the Port o' Call and Dining Room so a cuppa or a glass of port will be just the ticket.  Especially if we add a slice of home made raspberry buttercake!

The foreshore at Strahan has a pathway for you to safely discover the part of the town that surrounds this part of the harbour.  The pathway is actually the old railway route when the railway went from Regatta Point to Zeehan.  Today you can walk the same route and take in the sights on the way.

From the foreshore walk you can divert through Peoples Park to Hogarth Falls.  This pretty rainforest walk is skirted on one side by a stream that is home to a number of platypus.  During the early morning and late afternoon these shy and delightful animals can be viewed if you are quiet and careful not to be seen.

A short drive to Ocean Beach will reward you with magnificent views of a rugged coastline sculptured by the Roaring Forties and the prevailing seas of the Southern Ocean.  Ocean Beach is about 35kms long and at times the great swells of the ocean break up to a kilometre off shore.

Another drive along the coast will see you arriving at Macquarie Heads where you will see Hells Gates, the infamous entrance to the harbour named by convicts who saw the entrance as the gates of hell.

Catching up on some local history is easy at Ormiston House.  You can visit our history room that also has a 'guest office' with internet access, phone and fax.

If that wasn't all at Ormiston House you can laze away any sun filled day on our widows walk and watch the world go by with a perfect view of Macquarie Harbour.

So why wouldn't you stay at Ormiston House?
